What does switching phone suppliers involve?

How much do you pay for a ten minute local call? What about a five minute call overseas? And, how about a two minute call to a mobile?

A quick survey amongst my friends – and no one really knows.

“A lot,” says Andrew, “Maybe 2p per minute for local calls.”

“What?” says Ben, “Are local calls timed?”

It’s little wonder so many of us are paying a premium for our phone calls. Five minutes of your time comparing phone deals and switching to a cheaper phone supplier could save you up to £140 a year.

Five minutes could save you a fortune

We want you to save money on your household bills. We work with uSwitch.com to help you compare and switch phone suppliers using a simple online calculator.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to how it works.

  • Tell us about you – First, you enter some details into the online calculator. We need a few things to carry out your comparison, such as your postcode, your current deal and the types of calls you usually make. This should take about five minutes.
  • Check out your results – Our calculator works out which deals best suit the way you use the phone. These are presented in order of cost. You can also view each suppliers customer satisfaction rating and find out what their customers really think of the service.
  • Switch to a better deal – Once you check out your results and decide which deal you like, you can switch to it immediately. It’s a cinch to do and takes about five minutes. We need some personal information to complete your switch, like your name, address, email and phone number. But, don’t worry – our application pages are 100% secure.
  • Sit back, relax – After you hit the big red confirm button, we email you confirmation and start arranging the switch. We give your application to your new home phone supplier and they organise everything for you. Your phone will be switched in about two weeks, unless you switch to a cable supplier, which takes about four weeks.

It’s all too easy

Yes. Switching is easy. And just to squelch any lingering doubts you may be having, remember:

  • You won’t lose your service at any point
  • Your number won’t change
  • You won’t be billed twice
  • You will save money (as long as you use your phone the way you tell us you do)

So, what are you waiting for? Heed the advice of Jon Miller, director of uSwitch.com: “Consumers shouldn’t be put off shopping around for a better deal. There are some great packages around and significant savings to be made. Overall the switching process is very easy and should take no more than two weeks.”
