Who is the cheapest gas supplier?

Gas rates change, so the cheapest supplier often changes too. It also depends on which suppliers are available in your local area and how much gas you use.

Some suppliers charge just a unit rate, so you pay for what you use and that’s it. Others charge a standing fee plus a unit rate, but the unit rate is cheaper. You could be better off paying the annual charge for the cheaper rate.

You can also get a discount on your gas and electricity if you get them from the same supplier. This is called duel fuel.

There are other ways to save. Many suppliers give you a discount if you pay by Direct Debit. And others give you a small discount (say £5 per year) if you receive bills via email instead of post.

And of course, if you use less gas you will save too.

Finding a cheap gas supplier

Sounds confusing? Don’t worry too much, as we will work it out for you. Just tell us your postcode, who your current gas supplier is, and answer a few other questions about how you use gas in your home. Then our calculator will work out which suppliers are available to you and best match your needs.

In less than five minutes you will have a list of the cheapest gas suppliers for your needs. But you don’t just have to make your decision based on cost. We also show you the service rating, which shows you what other customers think of the supplier.

The results show you:

  • The name of the supplier and plan
  • How much you will save over the next year if you switch from your current supplier
  • How much the new supplier will cost over the next year
  • The features and conditions. We point out any important details, like whether you get Tesco Clubcard points or if there’s no standing charge

You can also read the nitty gritty for each plan, such as the unit rate, the standing charge and any discounts included.

Switching gas suppliers

It’s easy to switch your supplier. You can do it on our site in about five minutes, just by completing a few details. We pass these onto your new supplier and they take care of the rest. There’s nothing to worry about either. You will not be charged twice, as your new and old suppliers work out a switch date. They use your meter reading from that date to work out who you owe what to. And you won’t lose your gas supply at any point either.

In about four to six weeks you will start saving money on your gas.
